As a top Swiss watchmaking brand, Hublot’s passion of exploring innovative crossover cooperation is always beyond your imagination! Soon after the World Cup fever faded, Hublot turns its love for art into a brand new field and the brand’s iconic spirit of innovation will connect with the most excellent contemporary Chinese artists. Just like pop art swept over modern civilization in 1970s to overthrow the elegant and popular that followed up by the traditional world, the fusion of Hublot and pop art also trigger a challenge to luxury watch industry.
As the debut of this art show season, Hublot invited Chinese artist for the first time to build “Hublot Loves Art” showcase art exhibition. The post-90s artist Gao Ludi’s pop art style window show will meet publics in 6 boutiques of Beijing, Shanghai as well as other cities in China. Gao selected and digitalized his new pieces made in 2014 like “The 4 pines”, “Cactus”, “Yellow-blue line”, expressing tough-and-explicit qualities using linear frame in these 3 pictures. Moreover, he is inspired by the color of Hublot Big Bang Pop Art Lady Collection. The pictures have been adjusted to make them more vivid and modern and the world of a top luxury watch brand instantly releases freedom and vitality.
The Big Bang Pop Art watch is also exhibited in the shop window, its amazing appearance attracted many audiences during 2014 Geneva. Blue, purple, pink and apple green, those special and unique designs made perfect fusion between color and watch. This is pure remodeling and unscramble of pop art, a breakthrough of high end watchmaking industry and pop art’s combination. The piece uses Big Bang series’ iconic 41 mm diameter design, with its bezel set with 48 baguette-cut stones. The four colors including blue with blue topazes, purple with amethysts, pink with pink sapphires, and apple green with tsavorites. All these versions contrast finely with the pop art showcase.
Hublot particularly likes unique and modern art. During World Cup 2014, Hublot invited famous Brazilian painter and sculptor Romero Britto to fuse pop art, cubism and doodle art elements together. He designed the football pattern exclusively for Hublot and the World Cup.
Last year, Hublot invited Japan’s well known female photographer, film director Ninagawa Mika who made an art show named HUBLOT presents Life with WATCH in Isetan Shinjuku Department Store. In addition, during the 2013 Miami Art Week and the 2012 Art Basel Miami, Hublot cooperated with American artist Hebru Brantley and International expressionist Domingo Zapata to have window exhibitions together.
In regard to the first attempt for cooperation with Chinese artists, General Manager of Greater China of Hublot Loic Biver said: “As a luxury watch brand, promoting young artists in China is a decision we are most proud of, this is because we always have the courage and the adventurous spirit. I appreciate Gao Ludi’s distinct artistic spirit and his innovation of challenging conservation and his refusal to repeat, all of which represent Hublot’s core value. I hope Hublot could enhance more exciting collaborations with Chinese art field.”
Born in 1990, graduated from Department of Oil Painting, Fine Arts Academy of Capital Normal University, Gao Ludi is evaluated as having maturity and diversity beyond his age. In his paintings, wisdom and speculations unveiled from the variation of colour and frame made him far outstanding than his peer artists. He said: ”I have never cooperated with any brand before, therefore, this attempt is a challenge to me. I saw Hublot’s vanguard and quality, and its bold apply of color blocking in the watch design. As an artist, I am pursuing the essence of painting as well as studying straight line plasticity, fluorescence colour and pure colour, I tried their different possibilities, all of which are consistent with the concept of Hublot.”
Since September 9th, 2014, Hublot showcase art exhibition will be held in 6 boutiques all over the country, like Wangfujing Oriental Plaza in Beijing, Plaza 66 and Nanjing West Road in Shanghai, Deji Plaza in Nanjing, MYKAL in Dalian and Charter in Shenyang, which will officially kick off the Hublot Art season.
